3 die, 8 hurt as train hits truck

GAZIPUR: At least three people died and eight others sustained injuries as a Dhaka-Mymensingh route train hit a truck at Maizpara rail crossing under Sreepur Upazila of the district on Thursday.

Of the deceased, two were indentified as Shikhar Mia, 22, son of Kalim Munshi of Niguari village in Gafargaon Upazila of Mymensing and Jahangir Alam, 30, hailed from Baliapara village of Sreepur Upazila.   

Locals said the train smashed into a truck at 10:30am when the truck driver tried to cross the level crossing just before the train reached, leaving eight people, carried by the truck, injured. 

Besides, three passengers of the train were killed after falling off its roof during the collision. 

Sreepur Thana Officer-in-Charge Mohsinul Kadir confirmed the matter to banglanews.

He said on information, a team of police has been sent to the spot.

Joydebpur railway station master Shahidul Islam said rail communication was not reportedly disrupted due to the accident.
