BSF returns 4 detained cops

DHAKA: India’s Border Security Force (BSF) returned four Detective Branch (DB) personnel of Bangladesh Police to Border Guard Bangladesh (BSF) in Brahmanbaria border area.

In first phase, BSF returned Sub-Inspector (SI) Mohammad Sobuj and constable Selim in injured condition through Akhaura Check Post at 11:45pm on Wednesday.

Sub-Inspectors Alamgir and Tapas were returned back after a BGB-BSF meeting at 12:45am on Thursday.

However, four of the detainees are undergoing treatment at Comilla Police-line Hospital as they received injures in their heads and bodies.

BGB-12 Battalion commander Lt. Col. Mohammad Nazrul Islam, Akhaura Thana officer-in-charge (OC) Mofiz Uddin Bhuiyan and Comilla DB officer-in-charge (OC) Manjur Ahmed separately confirmed the matter to banglanews.

According to sources, seven members of DB police conducted a drive on Bangladesh border with India’s Tripura state to nab smuggler Abdul Jalil of Rahimpur village of Tripura.

Villagers beat the cops when they handcuffed smugglers and handed over the Bangladeshi police to BSF.

However, three of the cops managed to escape the scene.
