JU suspends 8 students

JAHANGIRNAGAR UNIVERSITY: The authorities suspended eight students of Jahangirnagar University (JU) for harassing a indigenous student sexually on Pohela Boishakh.

Deputy Registrar (education) of the university Mohammad Ali confirmed the matter to banglanews.

He also said the authorities suspended eight students but according to the rule the identity have been kept secret as the incident is now under investigation in Anti-Sexual Harassment Cell of JU.

On April 14, the indigenous student along with his friend was returning to Pritilota Hall around 8:30pm after enjoying program of Pohela Boishakh.

On the way, five Chhatra League men of Shahid Salam Barkat Hall halted the student and entered nearest wood after snatching her bag.

She was harassed sexually when she went to take back the bag and her friend was also beaten by the five. They also took her mobile phone and Tk 500.

On Thursday, they complained to the Proctor and VC. They transferred the complaint to the Anti Sexual Harassment Cell of JU.
