PM returns after Indonesia visit

DHAKA: A delegation led by Prime Minster Sheikh Hasina on Thursday night returned Bangladesh after completing the three days’ visit to Indonesia to attend the 2nd Asian-African Summit.

She reached at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 11:20pm by a special jet of Biman.

Earlier in the day, religious affairs minister of Indonesia Lukman Hakim, Bangladesh Ambassador to Indonesia Nazmul Quaunine and Indonesia’s Ambassador to Bangladesh Wiranata-Atmadja saw her off at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Jakarta at 7:30pm (local time).

The premier went to Jakarta to attend the summit on Tuesday (April 21). On the next day on April 22, the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina urged the world leaders to work together to tackle violence, terrorism and reduce poverty.

Meanwhile, Sheikh Hasina held five bilateral meetings with five heads of governments or heads of states in the sidelines of Asian-African Summit.

The leaders are: Chinese President Xi Jin Ping, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, Singapore’s Prime Minister Lee Heisen Loong, Myanmar’s President U Thein Sein and Qatar’s Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad bin Abdullah Al Mahmoud.

All the leaders vociferously praised the developmental works that are being conducted in Bangladesh under her dynamic leadership.

On the final day of the visit, Hasina attended the summit and acted as co-chair in the 4th plenary session of the summit.

After the plenary session, she held bilateral meetings with another four leaders that include Palestinian Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah, Indonesia’s Widodo, Nepalese Prime Minister Sushil Koirala and Iranian President Hassan Rouhani.

Indonesian President Widodo agreed on extending of cooperation in energy, power, readymade garments, agriculture and agro-products, tourism, education, cultural exchange, science and information technology, maritime boundaries and naval communication sectors to Bangladesh.

Foreign Minister A H Mahmood Ali, PMO’s Secretary Suraiya Begum, Foreign Secretary M SHahidul Haque, PM’s Press Secretary A K M Shamim Chowdhury and Bangladesh Ambassador to Indonesia Nazmul Quaunine were, among others, accompanied the premier in the visit.
 
Representatives of 106 countries, including heads of government and state of 34 countries, joined the conference.
