Ferry service on Shimulia-Kawrakandi halted

MUNSHIGANJ: Ferry service on the Shimulia-Kawrakandi route has been halted from Thursday night due to the nor’easter as the Padma river became billowy.

Three ferries carrying over 300 passengers and vehicles anchored in the mid-Padma which left the Shimulia-Kawrakandi ghat before the storm.

Manager M Giasuddin Patwari of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) Mawa Office told banglanews that all ferries kept anchored in Ferry Ghat and mid-river after the beginning of the storm around 10:30pm.

The ferries will be resumed when the situation will be normal, he added.
