DHAKA: The appellate division of the Supreme Court on Wednesday started hearing the appeal filed by Jamaat-e-Islami leader Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mojaheed challenging his death penalty for his wartime crimes.
The hearing is being held at the four-member bench of the Appellate Division led by Chief Justice SK Sinha.
The other members of the bench are Justice Nazmun Ara Sultana, Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain, and Justice Hassan Foyez Siddique.
Earlier on April 15, the apex court deferred the hearing on appeals of death row convicts Jamaat leader Mojaheed in response to separate time petition of defense on ground of lawyer’s illness.
However, International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) awarded death sentence to Mojaheed on July 17, 2013.
Later, Mojaheed appealed against the verdict on August 11, 2013 seeking acquittal from the charges.
