Police constable shot dead at Motijheel: bandit gunned down by police

DHAKA: Miscreants shot and killed a police constable, Manjurul Islam, on Thursday midnight near Pubali Bank head office in the capital’s main business district Motijheel.

In the same area, an anonymous suspected hijacker was also shot dead by another patrol team. The body of the dead was sent to DMCH at around 2am.

Another constable of Motijheel thana, Habibullah, was injured in the gang attack at about 00:55am, Motijheel Thana Operation Officer Mamunur Rahman said.

He told banglanews24.com.bd that miscreants opened fire while the policemen were patrolling the Sapla Chattar-to-Dilkusha area. ASI Majaharul Islam rushed Manjurul Islam to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where duty doctors declared him dead at about 01:20 am.

With bullet wounds, Habibullah was admitted to the hospital.

Motijheel thana top police officials visited the zone after the incident. “Police started combing entire Motijheel area to arrest the criminals,” said one police official.

Police recovered a revolver from the spot.
