TANGAIL: An on-duty policeman was killed as a bus hit him on Dhaka-Tangail highway in Purbapar Golchattar area of the district Sunday morning.

The deceased was identified as Abdul Majid, 42, a constable of Bangabandhu Bridge (East) Thana.

Bangabandhu Bridge (East) Thana Officer-In-Charge Akheruzzaman confirmed the matter to banglanews.

Akheruzzaman said that a Dhaka-bound passenger bus of Shyamoli Paribahan hit a police van from behind in the area, leaving the constable injured severely.

Majid was rushed to Tangail Medical College and Hospital. As condition deteriorated he was shifted to Dhaka for better treatment. Majid succumbed to his injuries on way to Dhaka around 9:00am.

Police sized the bus. However, the driver managed to flee the scene, added the OC.
