‘Entire NBL Tower area risky’

DHAKA: Executive engineer of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) M Siddiqur Rahman on Friday said the partial collapse of under construction NBL Tower left the entire tower area risky and prone to collapse.

He made the observations while talking to journalists after visiting the construction site in the morning.

He further said, “Piling hole created partial collapse. This has left the chance of a total collapse in the construction site area if it rains now.”

“The western part of SAARC Fountain from the eastern side of Hotel Sundarban is very risky now even if it does not rain,” he added.

Meanwhile, a six-member Army team also visited the area.

RAJUK (Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha) was trying to fill-up the craters by sand.

Authorities have closed the road around Hotel Sundarban for security purposes. Even journalists were not allowed to stay there.

Besides, the Sonargaon road from SAARC Fountain to Hatirpool and Panthapath also remained closed from Thursday.

In the morning of Wednesday (May 27), under construction NBL Tower near the Hotel Sundarban collapsed partially.

Hotel Sundarban evacuated its guests and employees immediate after the collapse.

Later, two newly elected mayors of DNCC and Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), police high-ups visited the area.
