DHAKA: Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) mayor Annisul Huq alleged that authorities of National Bank Limited are not cooperating with the efforts to minimize the risk in the area of partially collapsed under-construction NBL Twin Tower.
The newly elected mayor came up with the remarks when visiting the works to make NBL Tower and adjacent Hotel Sundarban risk-free on Sonargaon road in the city on Friday.
Annisul said that several high officials of the bank visited the spot on the day of incident. Since then, none visited there. This building is their property and they should supervise the works for all time, he added.
The mayor alleged that they (the bank authorities) are not cooperating to some extent.
Annisul went on saying that the spot is still risky, which may increase, if it rains and they are trying to overcome all risks with all-out efforts.
On the other hand, M Salauddin, head of MS Construction and Mum Impex that has sub-contract for the construction, told banglanews that the bank authorities has been cooperating them and keep in touch with them regularly.
An engineering team from the bank visited the spot on the day of the incident and an additional director has also visited there today (Friday), added Salauddin.
The mayor informed that a six-member team of Bangladesh Army visited the spot in the morning. They were taking consultancy from the army personnel.
Soil, carrying by some 1,200 trucks, have been poured there, soon the spot will be risk free, Annisul added.
Earlier on Wednesday, parts of the under-construction NBL Twin Tower, fell to the ground with huge sound on Bir Uttam CR Dutta road in Kathalbagan area. Immediately after the incident, authorities concerned declared the area risky and evacuated Sundarbans Hotel, adjacent to the tower.
The bank has a contract with Korean firm Donga to build a 12-story twin tower with a three-storey basement on around 80 katha land. The Korean firm sub-contracted three Bangladeshi firms – Mum Impex, BD Construction and MS Construction.
