Robber kingpin killed in Magura ‘gunfight’

MAGURA: A robber ringleader was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with police in Rawtara School area under Sadar upazila of the district early Monday.

The deceased was identified as Alfu Biswas, gang leader ‘Alfu Bahini’ and son of Lokman Biswas of Paka village of the upazila.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP, Circle) of Magura Sudarshan Kuman Roy told banglanews that, acting on a tip-off, Magura Sadar Thana and District Detective Branch of police jointly conducted a drive in the area around 4:00am.

Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the robbers opened fire targeting police. In retaliation, police also fired back.

During the gunfight, Alfu received severe bullet injuries. Four police members also sustained injuries during the clash, the ASP added.

The injured were sent to the Magura Sadar Hospital where the attending doctors declared him dead.

Following the gunfight, law enforcers recovered a one shooter gun, two rounds of bullet, three machetes from the spot.

The ASP said the deceased was accused in several cases, including murder and robbery, filed with Magura Sadar, Shalikha and Jhenaidah Thanas.
