DHAKA: Detective Branch (DB) of Metropolitan Police detained 14 people, including eight robbers and six criminals, from Badda and Shyampur areas of the city on Tuesday night.

Detectives revealed the information in a press conference held at Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) media center in city around 12:00pm Wednesday.

Joint commissioner (ADC) DB DMP Monirul Islam, DMP (north) deputy commissioner Sheikh Nazmul Alam, DMP (north)  deputy commissioner Marurur Rahaman Khaled, media center Deputy Commissioner Muntasirul Islam and other senior officers briefed the media.

In the press meet, Monirul Islam said a gang of miscreants mugged Tk 33-lakh, shooting Selim Akhter, office staff of Aquamoney Distribution Limited in Magbazar.

Later, six of the involved were arrested from Munshibari of city’s Badda area.

They are Omar Faruk alias Alamin, 28, Pabitra Samadder, 38, Rakib, 20, Zahirul Islam Zakir, 25, Rifat, 25 and Zakir Hosain, 25.

Moreover, a foreign-made pistol, three rounds of bullets and 100 pieces of yaba tablets were recovered from their procession.

Of the detainees, Alamin was involved in killing of Rubel in Rampura area.

Besides, DB police detained eight robbers from Shyampur area of the city while preparing for robbery.

They are Jalal, 30, Yusuf Hawlader, 35, Bachchu Sarder, 40, Kuddus Mia, 35, Nekbar Mia, 45, Kamaruzzman, 40, Swapan, 40, and Kamal Sheikh, 38.

Machete, knife, chopper, swing range and screwdriver and 135 mugged mobile phone sets were recovered from their possession.
