ASHULIA, DHAKA: Highway police recovered 300 tortoises of rare species from Savar on Dhaka-Aricha highway on Friday noon.

Savar Highway police Officer-in-charge Sanwar Hossain said acting on tip off that 300 tortoises of rare species, smuggled from India, are being taken through the highway. Police intercepted a microbus and recovered the tortoises contained in bags.

Law enforcers also detained four people, including a woman, in this connection.

The process is underway to file case against the detainees, he added.
