Upazila vice-chair among 52 gamblers held

DHAKA: Police detained 52 gamblers, including Kaliganj Upazila vice chairman Amjad Hossian Ripon, while gambling at a house in sector-7 of capital’s Uttara area Tuesday midnight.

Uttara zone assistant police commissioner Sohel Rana told banglanews that amongst the detainees, Amjad Hossian Ripon is the vice chairman of Kaliganj Upazila of Gazipur district. They all have been sent to the court.

Uttara west thana sub-inspector (SI) Shahin told banglanews that acting on tip-off, police raided the gambling den around 12:00am and arrested 52 people red handed.

They were interrogated in thana custody and process was underway to file case against the detainees, he added.
