DHAKA: This year’s Eid-ul-Azha will be celebrated in the country on September 25 as the moon of Arabic Jil-Hajj month was not sighted on Monday.

The moon sighting committee in a meeting held at Islamic Foundation office in Baitul Mokarram National Mosque in city announced the date following the committee meeting this evening.

Islamic Foundation director general and also national moon sighting committee member secretary Samim Mohammad Afzal made the announcement after the meeting.

He said the new moon of Jil Hajj month was not sighted that will make the month Jil-Qad to complete 30 days.

‘As a result, the month of Jil-Hajj will begin from Wednesday (September 16),’ he added.

However, Muslims all over the world celebrate Eid-ul-Azha on the 10th day of Jil-Hajj. The eid will be celebrated in mid eastern countries on September 24 while Muslims in Bangladesh will celebrate the festival on the next day.
