Book Committee visits Dhaka archaeological sites

DHAKA: The committee for preparing a book on Dhaka archeological heritages started visiting historical sites and rivers in Dhaka and its surrounding areas on Saturday morning.

Committee chairman and also Dhaka University vice-chancellor (VC) AAMS Arefin Siddique inaugurated the inspection program at Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) ghat at capital’s Badamtali area around 9:45am.

More than 50 researchers, architects, artists, cultural and environmental activists, journalists and photographers were present at the event.

Among others, educationist and architect Shamsul Wares, artist Samarjit Chowdhury, researcher Maulana Muhammad Nuruddin Phatehpuri, president of Bangladesh Institute of Architects Dr Abu Sayed M Ahmed took part in the program.

The journey by Water Bus started from river Buriganga via rivers Dhaleshwari, Shitalakhya, Balu and Turag and returned to Badamtali ghat.

During the journey, the participants visited the capital’s archaeological sites including Pagalapool and temple, Idrakpur Fort, Hajiganj Fort and Marium Mazar and Masjid, located on the bank of the afore mentioned rivers.

The committee members, on voluntary basis, is writing books, preparing and publishing reports on architectural heritages of the capital city.

Among others, Bangladesh Architect Institute president and architecture committee chairman Dr Abu Sayeed M Ahmed and journalists Murshed Ali Khan, Mahmuda Chowdhury, Munni Saha, Tarun Sarkar, Rajib Noor and Farzana Rupa were present during the visit.

The work on old architecture is being conducted centering the Dhaka University.
