DHAKA: Customs officials detained a person with 35 gold bars, weighing four kilograms, from boarding bridge area of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in city on Sunday.
The detainee was identified as Faysal Hasan, 30, hailed from Comilla. But his passport mentioned that his home district is Chittagong.
Customs preventive team assistant commissioner Shaheduzzman Sarker told banglanews that Faysal arrived at the airport around 9:00am from Abu Dhabi in an EK-582 flight.
On suspicion, customs officials searched him and found 35 gold bars wrapping with his legs and shoes.
Estimated market price of the seized gold would be about Tk 2-crore, the assistant commissioner added.
The detainee is being interrogated. Process is underway to file a case in this connection, he further said.
