JOYPURHAT: A team of Detective Branch (DB) of police has detained a youth with 34 gold bars worth of Tk over 1.61-crore in Khetlal upazila of Joypurhat district on Thursday afternoon.

The detainee was identified as Ehsanul Haque Hero (28), son of late Nurul Haque of Bogra district.

Joypurhat police super (SP) Mollah Nazrul Islam told banglanews that Hero was going from Bogra to Hili frontier of Dinajpur to smuggle the gold bars to India.

A team of DB police stopped his microbus in Nishchintabazar area on Joypurhat-Bogra highway and later seized 34 gold bars after searching the microbus, he added.
