DHAKA: Seven people, six of a family, were killed and one critically injured as a microbus and an auto-rickshaw collided head-on in Gopalganj district on Saturday morning.
The deceased were identified as Khokon Sikdar (45), his wife China Begum (38), daughters Anne (16) and Chandni (8), Khokon’s mother Katebun (65), Khokon’s nephew Sakib (13) and the auto-rickshaw driver Swapan Sardar (35).
Khokon’s another daughter Iti Moni (13) is critically injured in the incident.
The accident took place at Shibpur on Gopalganj-Kotalipara road of the district around 10:15am.
Relatives of deceased said that Khokon was going to his home with family members from Khulna. They rented an auto-rickshaw from Bedgram Bus Stand of Gopalganj to his house in Majhigati union.
Gopalganj Fire Service Station officer Niamul Haque said that on information, fire fighters rushed to the place and rescued the victims with the assistance of the local people.
According to him, one of the victims died on the spot while four died on their way to hospital and two died under medical treatment.
Confirming the matter to banglanews Gopalganj Sadar Thana officer-in-charge (OC) Selim Reza said the process of handing over the dead bodies to the families is underway.
