Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina received the ICT Sustainable Development Award from the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) on Saturday evening.
ITU Secretary-General Houlin Zhao handed over the ICT Award to her at a programme at UN headquarters in recognition to contribution to promote the use of ICTs towards achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
ITU also honoured a number of heads of state and government, past and present leaders of the United Nations, UN permanent representatives and business executives with the award.
Sheikh Haisna extended her thanks to ITU for this recognition and said, "It is a significant recognition as we are working to build a Digital Bangladesh.”
The premier dedicated the award to the young people of Bangladesh saying her government is promoting ICT access to all.
The ITU has given the ICT Sustainable Development Award marking the 150th anniversary and United Nations Summit for the Adoption of the Post-2015 Development Agenda.
United Nations senior officials, heads of the state, permanent representatives of the United Nations, Broadband Commission for Sustainable Development, high-ups of UN specialized agencies and business leaders and philanthropists took part in the award-giving ceremony.
