10 Bangladeshis dead in hajj stampede, 98 missing

DHAKA: Bangladesh religious affairs ministry has confirmed that at least 10 Bangladeshi nationals are dead and 98 missing in a stampede near Makkah during hajj performance.

The ministry joint-secretary Dr Mohammad Borhanuddin and deputy-secretary Mohammad Fayzur Rahman Faruki made the disclosure on Monday.

Besides, 98 Bangladeshi pilgrims are still missing in the incident, they added.

But the ministry confirmed the identities of three pilgrims.

Dr Mohammad Borhanuddin said that decisions of the deceased pilgrims’ families will get priority in bringing the bodies back.

However, at least 769 pilgrims were stampeded to death and as many as 934 injured in Mina during hajj performance on September 24.
