SAUDI ARABIA: Jeddah consulate consul general AKM Shahidul Karim has confirmed that at least 26 Bangladeshi nationals were killed and 52 missing in a stampede near Makkah during hajj performance.

Bodies of the deceased Bangladeshi pilgrims are kept at a hospital morgue in Makkah, he added.

Three bodies were handed over to their respective families, the consul general added.

Shahidul Karim also requested to contact the Bangladesh hajj mission help desk if anyone’s relatives remain missing.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh ambassador to Saudi Arabia Golam Masih held a press conference with Bangladeshi journalists around 10:00pm (local time) on Monday.

He feared five more Bangladeshis might be found among the dead.
