‘Dacoit’ killed in ‘gunfight’ with cops

LAXMIPUR: A suspected dacoit was killed in a gunfight with police in Chandraganj union under Laxmipur Sadar early Wednesday.

The deceased was identified as Abdus Jaher alias Dhama Kala, 35.

Laxmipur assistant superintendent of police (ASP) Jonayed Kawser told banglanews that a gang of dacoit was preparing to commit robbery at west Latifpur village around 2:30am. Being tipped of, a team of police went to the place to nab the dacoit gang.

Sensing the presence of police, the perpetrators opened fire on them and police also retaliated that triggered a gunfight. 

Later, police recovered bullet-riddled body of Dhama Kala from the spot.

Dhama Kala was accused in several cases including murder, robbery and sabotages, the ASP added.

After the gunfight, police also recovered an LG, four round of bullets from the spot.

Meanwhile, five policemen were injured during dacoits’ attack, the senior police official added.
