UGC assist director dies in RAB custody

DHAKA: University Grants Commission (UGC) Assistant director Omar Siraj, 32, who was earlier detained by Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) for alleged link with question paper leak, has died of cardiac arrest on Thursday night.

He breathed his last at National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases around 7:15pm, said RAB -4 ASP Mujahidul Islam and RAB major (deputy director media) Maksudul Alam.

They said three people, including an assistant director of University Grants Commission (UGC) were detained from Agargaon area in the capital for their alleged connection in leakage of Medical Admission test question paper on September 18.

He was admitted to the hospital with complain of chest pain on Thursday afternoon where he died of heart attack, said doctor.

On information, police rushed to the spot and sent the body to Dhaka Medical college Hospital for autopsy.
