FENI: A rival group beat and hacked a young man to death over a trifling issue in Olma Bazar area under Sonagazi upazila of the district early Friday.

The deceased was identified as Gias Uddin, 32, son of Abul Hashem of the area.

Quoting locals, police said Gias and shopkeeper Safiulla locked into a quarrel over due payment.

Following the quarrel, the shopkeeper along with his son and others picked up Gias from his house on Thursday night. Then, they beat and chopped him indiscriminately, leaving him injured critically.

Locals spotted injured Gias and sent him to Sonagazi Upazila Health Complex where the attending doctor declared him dead.

Confirming the matter, Sonagazi Thana officer-in-charge (OC) Harun or Rashid told banglanews that the body was kept at Feni Sadar Hospital morgue.

Police detained Abu Tayab Selim, 28, and Fazlul Karim Rana, 27, for their alleged involvement in the killing.
