PM returns home

SYLHET: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina returned home on Saturday morning after attending the 70th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.

She arrived in Sylhet after making a one-day stopover in the British capital.

A flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, carrying the premier and her entourage members, landed at MAG Osmani International Airport in Sylhet en route Dhaka.

Earlier on Friday night, she left Heathrow International Airport for Dhaka around 8:35pm (London time).

Bangladesh High commissioner to UK Mohammad Abdul Hannan, UK AL president Sultan Sahrif and others saw the prime minister off at the airport.

Local Awami League leaders are likely to meet her during one-hour stopover here.

She is expected to leave at Sylhet after one-hour, said Osmani Airport Aviation manager hafiz Ahmad.

Party sources told banglanews that the premier will be accorded reception for achieving the highest award by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) ‘Champions of the Earth’.

Earlier, she left New York for London’s Heathrow airport on Thursday morning after attending the 70th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.

During the short stopover at London, Sheikh Hasina addressed a gathering of Awami League leaders-activists at Claridges Hotel at Brook Street in London.

Sheikh Hasina left the country on September 23. On September 27, she received the ‘Champions of the Earth’ award from UNEP executive director Achim Steiner.
