DHAKA: A total of 20 mobile therapy vans have been introduced across the country on Thursday to provide 10 kinds of services to the autistic and other people with disabilities.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the countrywide services at Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC) in city this morning.
Later, the PM joined the program marking the 24th International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD) and 17th National Day of People with Disability at the same venue.
The services include – physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, hearing and visual tests, autism, NDD, mentally challenged, counseling for guardians, treatment through referral service and sending them to help centers, distribution, training and use of helping instruments and other services related to disabilities and mass awareness.
The larger covered-vans will be equipped with modern technology converted to mobile therapy vans. Some 18 vital equipments have been added to provide the therapy services.
The equipments include audio-meter, radioscopy, red radiation, interferential therapy, tense and vibrator machine, short web diathermy, ultra sound therapy, blood pressure machine and stethoscope, goniometer and reflex hammer, paraffin wax bath, digital traction with therapy table, foldable wheelchair, trial lens set, vision box, E&T set, first-aid box, X-ray box, and oxygen cylinder.
Besides, the therapy van will also be equipped with multimedia projector, air-conditioner, solar-panel, power-generator, hydraulic lift, tent, laptop, printer, internet and fire extinguishing machineries.
The vans will move across the country to provide services, said the premier adding that 14 more vans will be operational soon.
