Bangladesh reported nine more dengue deaths in the past 24 hours, while 1,042 patients were admitted to hospitals nationwide, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said on Sunday (Oct 5).
In a statement from the DGHS Health Emergency Operations Center and Control Room, authorities detailed new admissions by region: Barishal (outside city corporation areas) 195, Chattogram (outside) 104, Dhaka Division (outside) 201, Dhaka North City Corporation 198, Dhaka South City Corporation 212, Khulna (outside) 72, Mymensingh (outside) 41, Rajshahi (outside) 82, Rangpur (outside) 23 and Sylhet (outside) 5.
Over the same 24-hour period, 898 patients were discharged. A total of 47,256 dengue patients have been discharged from hospitals this year.
As of October 5 this year, Bangladesh has recorded 49,907 dengue infections, with 60.8% of cases involving men and 39.2% involving women. The latest fatalities bring this year’s death toll to 212.
By comparison, from January to December 2024, the country logged 101,214 dengue cases and 575 deaths. In 2023, dengue claimed 1,705 lives and led to 321,179 hospital admissions.
