The Bangladesh Embassy in Tashkent has officially launched e-passport services, offering expatriates in Uzbekistan and neighbouring countries access to the digital travel document.

The inauguration ceremony, held on Tuesday, September 30, was chaired by Bangladesh’s Ambassador to Uzbekistan, Mohammad Monirul Islam. 

Brigadier General Mohammad Nurus Salam, project director, attended as chief guest, while Nilima Afroze, deputy secretary of the Security Services Division, was present as special guest.

In his remarks, Brigadier General Salam highlighted the benefits of e-passports and updated attendees on the progress of the nationwide rollout. He expressed hope that Bangladeshis residing in Uzbekistan and nearby states would find the new service significantly helpful.

Deputy Secretary Afroze emphasised government initiatives to modernise and streamline passport services, while Ambassador Islam described the launch as a milestone for the embassy. 

He extended gratitude to all ministries and departments involved and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to safeguarding the welfare of expatriates under its pro-diaspora policy.

Ambassador Islam also underscored the vital contribution of expatriates to Bangladesh’s social and economic development, urging them to play a stronger role in building an inclusive, prosperous nation.

Bangladeshi expatriates attending the event welcomed the move, praising the government for extending e-passport facilities abroad. The ceremony was conducted by Shukla Bonik, First Secretary of the embassy.
