Bangladesh’s weather office has warned of widespread heavy to very heavy rainfall across all divisions over the next three days, raising concerns of landslides in hilly areas.
Meteorologist Dr. Muhammad Abul Kalam Mallik today (Oct 1) said an active monsoon, intensified by a well-marked low over the west-central Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas, is expected to trigger downpours until Saturday, October 4.
According to the forecast, Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram, and Sylhet may experience 44–88 millimetres of rainfall in 24 hours, with some areas likely to receive more than 88 millimetres.
The Meteorological Department cautioned that heavy rain could cause landslides in the hilly districts of Chattogram, while Dhaka and Chattogram cities may face temporary waterlogging.
