Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser, Professor Muhammad Yunus, departed New York late Tuesday night, concluding a nine-day visit to the United States. An Emirates flight carrying Prof. Yunus and his entourage left John F. Kennedy International Airport at 11:10 p.m. local time.
Permanent Representative to the UN, Salahuddin Noman Chowdhury, and Bangladesh Ambassador to the USA, Tareq Md. Ariful Islam, saw him off at the airport, according to Chief Adviser’s Deputy Press Secretary Abdul Kalam Azad Majumder.
During his visit, Prof. Yunus addressed the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly on September 26 and spoke at the “Opening Session of the High-Level Conference on the Situation of the Rohingya Muslims and Other Minorities in Myanmar” at UN Headquarters on September 30.
He also held a meeting with UN Secretary-General António Guterres on September 29 and met with UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi at his hotel. UN Under-Secretary-General and High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States, Rabab Fatima, also met with him.
In addition, Prof. Yunus attended a reception hosted by U.S. President Donald Trump in New York, where he extended an invitation for the President to visit Bangladesh. He participated in bilateral meetings with leaders from the Netherlands, Pakistan, Bhutan, and Kosovo.
Prof. Yunus is scheduled to return to Bangladesh on October 2.
