No chance of lifting ban on AL soon: Asif Nazrul

Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Adviser Dr Asif Nazrul has ruled out any possibility of lifting the ban on the political activities of the fallen fascist Awami League in the near future.

Speaking to journalists after visiting the Sree Sree Sankar Math Puja Mandap in Barishal city on Wednesday, the adviser said: “When a party’s activities are banned, there is always a question of whether it is permanent or temporary. I don’t see any possibility that the ban on Awami League activities will be lifted soon.”

Nazrul said that the national elections will be held in the first half of February 2026 as scheduled.

On the issue of unrest in the Chattogram Hill Tracts, he said the government would take strict action against those responsible for creating instability.

During the visit, the adviser exchanged greetings with leaders of the Hindu community on the occasion of Durga Puja.

Barishal Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Delwar Hussain, Superintendent of Police Md Sharif Uddin, Sree Sree Sankar Math Barishal Committee President Kanu Lal Saha, and former General Secretary Tammay Topu were also present.
