FROM ICCB: Housing and public works minister Engineer Mosharraf Hossain informed the audience that a 130-storey icon tower will be constructed at Purbachal in city.

A US-based company has shown their interest in building the skyscraper, he added.

‘We have accepted the proposal, and hope that, the construction works will begin soon. The company will build the tower in a land of 60 acres.’

The minister also hoped that Purbachal will be built as a ‘green city’ in future.

The minister made this aspiration at the inaugural ceremony of a three-day International Power, Solar, Real Estate and Con Expo on Thursday (3rd December) at International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB).

According to him, there are 60 thousands apartments to be built at Purbachal, and people will be able to buy apartments in affordable price and easy installments.

“As the population of this country is comparatively higher than the lands, we need to focus on apartments and multi-storey buildings, rather than plots,” the minister asserted.

He cited the example of China, saying that the world’s most populous country is building multi-storey buildings although they have huge area of unused lands.

In the inauguration ceremony, Prime Minister’s power, energy and mineral resources adviser Dr Tawfiq-E-Elahi Chowdhury said, “As many as 35 lakh houses for 1.5-crore people have come under solar system, and our aim is to provide solar energy to as many as 60 lakh houses”.

He also claimed that, “People of Dhaka used to live in darkness at night due to load-shedding, and pass the day in sunlight. But now, they are getting electricity all time”.

The advisor further said, “We are providing electricity all over the country; in last month alone, as many as 3.5 lakh electricity connections are made”.

“Within the tenure of this government, electricity will reach all over the country”, he expected.

FBCCI first vice-president Md. Safiul Islam Mohiuddin said, “An energy policy will be needed to ensure faster industrialization”.

Spain ambassador to Bangladesh Edward de Laiglesia del Rosal and CEMS-Global President Meherun N Islam also delivered speech at the event.

The exhibition is open for public from 10:00am to 7:00pm till December 5.
