DHAKA: Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha opined that Bangla should be used in Supreme Court (SC) activities.
He made this observation at a discussion titled “Mother Tongue and National Culture”, organized by ‘Deshiya Sangskritik Ainjibi Parishad’ at SC bar council’s Shaheed Shafiur Rahman Auditorium in city on Thursday evening (3rd December).
The Chief Justice said, ‘Our official activities in SC should be conducted in mother tongue Bangla. Lower court has already started using it that can also be used in SC as well’.
‘Some SC lawyers write verdict in Bangla. I am also thinking to write some verdicts in Bangla,’ he added.
SK Sinha also noted, ‘National culture is something that drives us forward through daily activities and values. Culture is not static. It moves forward, so, we should not confine it within a boundary’.
‘In our time, national culture, values and norms are gradually fading away. Our youths are adapting foreign culture for their mental satisfaction.’
‘We should not forget that mother tongue and culture are interrelated and connected. It had lead us in building the nation and encouraged in fights for national identities.’
‘We need to nourish national culture and language in our heart’, he added.
Chaired by ‘Deshiya Sangskritik Ainjibi Parishad’ president Guarang Chandra Kor, the discussion was attended by Attorney General Mahbube Alam, Bar Council vice-chairman Advocate Abdul Baset Mazumdar, senior lawyer Advocate Yusuf Hossain Humayun, former law minister Abdul Matin Khusru, Supreme Court Bar Council former secretary Dr Bashir Ahmed and member Advocate SM Rezaul Karim.
