DHAKA: A few workers of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) were found cutting down billboards with the help of oxyacetylene burner in presence of an executive magistrate, senior officials and police at Mahakhali rail crossing area in city early Friday.
The officials and the employees of DNCC were having a busy night to evict the illegal billboards.
The senior officials were directing the eviction event. Executive Magistrate Mohiuddin Kabir was present during the drive.
Aminul Islam, Chief Estate Officer (CEO) of DNCC, told Banglanews that, “Almost 80 percent of illegal billboards have been evicted after the drive started. Remaining billboards will be removed by December 30.”
He further said DNCC Mayor Annisul Huq ordered to remove illegal billboards, banners and festoons to keep the city clean.
The DNCC CEO further said there might be 150/200 more billboards within the DNCC area waiting to be removed, adding that those will be removed by December 30.
DNCC has been spending money and labor and conducting eviction drives almost at every night to make the city clean and resplendent, he added.
The chief estate officer also said, “DNCC will allot certain spaces to put billboards once the eviction drive is completed”.
“Those spaces can be used after taking permissions from appropriate authorities,” he added.
