DHAKA: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed deep condolence in casualty and damages caused by flood in southern region in India.
She also assured of standing beside India as neighboring and friendly country during the disastrous time.
The premier sent a letter to her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi on Thursday expressing her well wishes. PM’s press wing informed the matter to banglanews on Friday.
In the letter, the PM said ‘I am deeply saddened and sorry for casualties and destruction caused by the devastating floods in southern India.’
She said, ‘In this critical situation, I myself and on behalf of Bangladesh Government expressed sympathy and deep condolences to flood affected Indians. We seek peace of souls of the people who lost their lives in the disaster.’
The Prime Minister also said, ‘We want to stand beside you in this crisis time as a friend and neighbor.’
At least 269 people have been killed as floods leave thousands stranded in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Flights to and out of Chennai have been cancelled and the airport is shut with water on the runway.
