Govt opens control room to tackle quake impact

DHAKA: The government on Monday (January 4) opened a 24-hour emergency control room to tackle the aftermath of earthquake in Bangladesh.

Besides, monitoring cells have been opened in all districts to manage natural disasters.

Relief and disaster management minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya (Bir Bikram) said the control room and monitoring cells would be kept open till the next order.

The minister made this disclosure while addressing a press briefing at his secretariat office in city this noon.

The ministry will observe the monitoring cells while Department of Disaster Management (DDM) will coordinate it, the minister added.

He further said at least four people died of heart attack and 96 others injured due to Monday’s early morning quake.

Secretary M Shah Kamal, among others, was present at the press meet.
