DHAKA: Nobel Peace Prize winner Dr Yunus on Monday expressed his deep shock and sadness learning about the death of Dr Mahabub Hossain.
Yunus Centre issued a press release in this regard this evening.
Terming Dr Mahabub Hossain a brilliant scholar, Yunus recalled his contributions in the field of economics and agricultural research that were “ground breaking and far reaching”.
Dr Yunus also recalled, “He was the first scholar to study Grameen Bank and produce a highly demanded research paper on the impact of Grameen Bank”, says the press release.
“His insights in that paper were tremendously valuable to Grameen Bank as it expanded and grew,” it added.
Also the Grameen Bank founder further said Dr Mahabub Hossain’s deep commitment to social justice, empathy for marginalized people, and his humility made him stand out as an extraordinary human being.
Terming his death as an irreplaceable loss for the country, and the global community of agricultural researchers, Dr Yunus prayed to Allah to rest his soul in eternal peace.
He also conveyed deep sympathies and condolences to the bereaved family members, and pray that they find the strength at this most difficult time.
