‘Drug trader’ killed in Gazipur ‘gunfight’

GAZIPUR: An alleged drug peddler was killed in a “gunfight” with the police in Rajendrapur of Gazipur district on Tuesday midnight.

Monir Khan, 35, of Haldoba area of Gazipur Sadar, was an accused in at least 27 criminal cases, said police officials.

Joydebpur Thana sub-Inspector (SI) Harun-or-Rashid told banglanews that Monir was arrested with 100 pieces of yaba tablets at night. Later at 11:00pm, police long with Monir conducted a drive in the area.

During the time, cohorts of Monir opened fire targeting law enforcers. In retaliation, police fired back, leaving Monir shot dead on the spot.

The body of Monir has been sent to morgue of Shahid Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital in Gazipur for autopsy.
