DHAKA: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday hoped that one day Bangladeshi students will be able to contribute globally if they get proper opportunity to develop their intellects.
‘Not only at national level, our boys and girls will also be able to contribute in international level if they get opportunity to develop their intellects,’ the premier observed.
She made the assertion while addressing a gold medal giving ceremony, arranged by the University Grants Commission (UGC), at Prime Minister’s office on Wednesday morning.
Sheikh Hasina also said that immediately after independence, father of the nation gave importance on women’s education. He had made the primary education compulsory. In the continuation, incumbent government has been working for the development of education.
Mentioning students’ lack of interest in sciences, she said the government has taken a few steps to make science popular among them.
She also talked about opening 12 science and technological universities as well as a medical university, agricultural universities and textile university in the country.
“All-sided education is our goal and the government has been working with that view,” she added.
The premier also said the government has been working to opening more private universities around the country.
She also said the government has been directing those, who have been approaching with proposals to open new private universities, about establishing specialized universities not only in Dhaka but also in other parts of the country.
Sheikh Hasina also said the government aims to build universities in every district.
She also mentioned that UGC medal awarding program substantiates that the rate of female education increased.
In 2011, the UGC awarded 37.21 percent women while the rate was 40.21 in 2012.
