JESSORE: All preparations have been taken to execute three killers of five Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) leaders including its president Kazi Aref.

The convicted are Rashedul Islam alias Jhantu, Anwar Hossain and Safayat Hossain alias Habiib. They are now confined at Jassore Central Jail.

Senior jail superintendent Shahjahan Ahammed said that they have completed all preparations to hang three convicts following the orders of the higher authorities concerned.

‘The execution can be held anytime,’ he added.

‘Two executioners have already reached Jassore Central Jail from Dhaka Central Jail in this regard.’

Earlier, the Appellate Division upheld the High Court (HC) verdict as the convicts made an appeal to review it.

Later, the President also rejected their prayers of clemency.

On February 16, 1999, miscreants shot dead JSD president and also one of the organizers of country war of independence Kazi Aref, Kushtia district unit JSD president Lokman Hossain, general secretary Yakub Ali and local unit leaders Israel Hossain and Samsher Mandal at a rally on Kalidaspur Government Primay School playground.

Kushtia district judge, on August 30, 2004, passed capital punishment for 10 and life imprisonment for 12 persons in the murder case filed by the police.
