DHAKA: Home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal on Wednesday (January 6) asked the officials concerned to take stern actions against the saboteurs during the daylong countrywide hartal called by Jamaat-e-Islami for Thursday.
The minister came up with the directives during a view exchange program on resisting militancy and terrorism at a community center in city’s Mirpur area this afternoon.
In response to the question regarding the hartal announcement by Jamaat, Kamal said, “They have every right to call hartal. But, the important thing is whether people support this”.
He also said, “The shops and business outlets will be kept open on the day and transports will ply as usual”.
“Law enforcers and people will prevent them if anyone tries to create violence, does vandalism and comes up with arson attack.”
Earlier in the day, Jamaat-e-Islami called the hartal for Thursday after the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court upheld the death penalty to its leader Matiur Rahman Nizami.
