DHAKA: There is no incident of death of illegal Bangladeshis migrants in the Bay of Bengal as the government has taken tougher measures to curb it.
However, the crisis was created in the past year at bay as migrant-boats with Bangladeshis abroad had started sailing mainly for the southeast Asian countries.
Due to the tougher stance, taken by Bangladesh law enforcement authorities, the crisis has been solved and no such incident occurred in past seven months.
The information was revealed at a conference on immigration crisis held at Thailand’s capital Bangkok.
Bangladesh government’s decision and prevention of deaths were appreciated at the conference.
Banglanews received this information from reliable diplomatic sources.
According to the sources, the conference speakers lauded Bangladesh government’s decisions in preventing the tendency of illegal migration through perilous sea journeys from Bangladesh to Malaysia via Thailand.
The crisis received international media attention whenever the mass graves and incidents of killings of the immigrants – mainly from Myanmar and Bangladesh – were unveiled.
Upon the discovery of such killings, Thai and Malaysian authorities conducted operations in certain areas and revealed scores of mass graves of the illegal immigrants.
These incidents led Thai and Malaysian authorities to close the borders.
Moreover, Thai government arrested individuals, who were allegedly involved in such heinous killings.
In the conference, Bangladesh was praised for its tougher stance on illegal migration and prevention of death, Bangladesh high commissioner to Thailand Saida Muna Tasneem told banglanews when contacted.
“The respective countries did not come up with any complaints against Bangladesh at the conference,” she added.
