JESSORE: Three killers of five Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) leaders including its president Kazi Aref, were executed in the wee hour of Friday (January 8).

The convicted were Rashedul Islam alias Jhantu, Anwar Hossain and Safawat Hossain alias Habiib.

Earlier, the Appellate Division upheld the High Court (HC) verdict as the convicts made an appeal to review it.

Later, the President also rejected their prayers of clemency.

On February 16, 1999, miscreants shot dead JSD president and also one of the organizers of country war of independence Kazi Aref, Kushtia district unit JSD president Lokman Hossain, general secretary Yakub Ali and local unit leaders Israel Hossain and Samsher Mandal at a rally on Kalidaspur Government Primay School playground.

Kushtia district judge, on August 30, 2004, passed capital punishment for 10 and life imprisonment for 12 persons in the murder case filed by the police.
