BRAHMANBARIA: Two passengers were killed and scores reportedly injured after a Akhaura-bound commuter train ‘Titas’ derailed near the home signal of Narsingdi Railway Station on Friday night.
The identities of the deceased could not be known yet while the injured have been rushed to nearby hospitals.
Police and witnesses said the locomotive of the ‘Titas Commuter’ coming from Dhaka veered off the tracks around 8:40pm and overturned that caused derailment of its two compartments.
The derailment halted the rail links of the Chittagong and Sylhet with Dhaka.
Narsingdi railway police outpost in-charge Ziaur Rahman said two relief trains removed the locomotive and compartments from the track. And then, the rail communication on Dhaka-Sylhet and Dhaka-Chittagong restored around 1:30am of Saturday.
