13 killed in road crashes

DHAKA: At least thirteen people were killed and thirty-five others injured in separate road accidents in Tangail, Chuadanga, Joypuhat, Pabna and Chittagong districts on Saturday.

Of the deceased, five were identified as Dulal, 30, Shanti Mia, 35 and Arash, 28, Belal Hossain, 42, Khetlal upazila of Joypurhat and Sweet, 24, from Sadar upazila of Pabna.

Banglanews Tangail correspondent reports: At least four people were killed and scores injured in a collision between a bus and a truck on Dhaka-Tangail-Bangabandhu bridge highway early hours of Saturday.

Dhaka-Tangail-Bangabandhu Bridge highway west thana officer-in-charge (OC) Rakibul Islam confirmed the matter to banglanews.

On the other hand, locals claimed two others were killed in a separate road accident on the same highway. But police did not confirm the matter.

In Chuadanga, three people were killed and seven others injured in a road accident in Joyrampur area in Damurhuda upazila of the district on Saturday.

Damurhuda Thana officer-in-charge (OC) Liakat Hossain told banglanews after a passenger bus collided head-on with another bus in the area around 8:30am, leaving two dead on the spot and others injured.

In Joypurhat, a motorcyclist named Belal Hossain was killed  and a pillion injured in a road accident  on Akkelpur-Jamalganj road around 9:00am.
 
In Pabna, a young man was killed and three others were injured after a truck ran over the auto-rickshaw carrying him on Pabna-Iswardi road around 8:00am.

Sadar Thana officer-in-charge (OC) Abdullah Al Hasan said all four injured were rushed to Pabna Medical College Hospital where duty doctor declared   Sweet dead.

In Dhaka, an unidentified woman was killed in a road accident in Shahjalal International airport area in city around 4:00am.

In Chittagong, an unidentified man was killed and another injured as a bus ran over their motorbike in Bordighir par area in Hathazari upazila of Chittagong around 9:30am.
