DHAKA: A Dhaka court Wednesday granted three days police remand for interrogating Maruf who had sent in email threat asking the government to set free the detained top Jamaat leaders before eid or face serial attacks across the country.

Metropolitan Magistrate Ismail Hossain passed the remand order, General Recording Officer of the court told banglanews.

The investigation officer of the case sub-inspector M Fariduzzaman produced Maruf before the court and prayed for 10 days’ remand.

FIR of the case stated that the threat letter was sent the threatening email to government authorities on August 25.

Two GDs were lodged with Ramna and Shahabagh thanas in this connection. Police arrested the diploma engineer from a computer shop at Saddam Crossing of Natun Babupara of Syedpur in Nilphamari district.

Sub-Inspector of Shahbagh thana Muhammad Shahjahan filed a case with Shahbagh thana under the article of 57(2) of the information communications technology act.

Special public prosecutor Quamrul Hasan Khan stood for the state. There was none to defend the northerner.  

It happens to be the second case under the newly enacted information communications technology law.

Captain Mohiuddin Abdul Guader, a marine businessman, had lodged the first case with the chief metropolitan magistrate court in Chittagong for the theft of password of his email and server hacking.
