DHAKA: The Indian Border Security Force (BSF) Saturday handed over a Bangladeshi girl who was trafficked to India five years ago.
The trafficked girl is Afroza, 12.
BSF special Director General BD Sharma handed over Afroza to Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Director General Major General Aziz Ahmed at BGB Headquarter in the capital.
BGB and BSF high officials were present during the time.
BD Sharma said that they sent Afroza back to Bangladesh on humanity ground.
Earlier in 2009, crossing border illegally Afroza along with her mother and brother went to India through Hili frontier.
In January 2009, Indian police held them while they were trying to return Bangladesh and sent them to jail for illegal intrusion.
October 13, 2009, Afroza’s mother died due to sickness in Baharamur Hospital during her jail term. On information, BGB took necessary steps to get Afroza and her brother Munna Parvej beck to Bangladesh.
Later, West Bengal human rights commission gave Baharamur 1.5 lakhs Indian rupees as compensation for the two kids.
Meanwhile, according to BGB director general directives the authority concerned have taken all necessary steps for Afroza.
