Asad Alam Siam has been appointed as the new Foreign Secretary on Thursday (June 19).
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a notification in this regard.
He said that Siam will assume his new role from Friday and continue until further notice.
Before this appointment, he served as Bangladesh’s Ambassador to the United States.
He also held important diplomatic positions, including Bangladesh’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office in Vienna and Ambassador to the Philippines.
The previous Foreign Secretary, Masud Bin Momen, went on leave on May 22. In his absence, Additional Secretary Ruhul Alam Siddique served as Acting Foreign Secretary. He is set to go on post-retirement leave (PRL) on Friday.
Siam will take over the Foreign Ministry’s top post amid several ongoing international developments and diplomatic challenges.
