60 fishermen abducted in Mongla

MONGLA, BAGERHAT: Sea robbers abducted 60 fishermen and looted fishes worth more than Tk 50 lakh from Dubu Jahaj area at Dublar Char near Bay of Bengal on Sunday.

Most of the abducted fishermen hailed from Bagerhat, Patharghata of Khulna, Barguna and adjacent areas.

Kamal Ahmed, general secretary of ‘Fisher man group’ at Dubler Char area told banglanews that to a gang of 40-45 sea robbers led by Jahangir attacked at least 45 fishing trawlers with sharp weapons around on Saturday midnight and looted fishes and valuables.

He said, “Jahangir gang also abducted 60 fishermen for ransom.”

Operation officer at Mogla Coast guard west zone Lieutenant Commander Mohiuddin told banglanews that they had no information about the abduction, but coast guard would conduct drives to bottle up sea robbers in Bay of Bengal.
